Why we drive, not fly

The quiet reasons we choose roads over cargo holds for every dog we bring home.

For most of the dogs in our care, the journey home is the longest road they will ever travel.

Why a van and not a plane

Flying is faster on paper, but it is not gentler. A pressurised cargo hold is loud, dark, and unfamiliar — three things a rescue dog has had quite enough of already.

We travel by road for three reasons:

  • We can stop, walk, water, and reassure every few hours.
  • We can keep siblings and bonded pairs together.
  • A driver, not a stranger in a uniform, is the last person they meet before their new family.

What a stop looks like

A stop is not a refuel. It is a quiet patch of grass, a fresh bowl of water, and a few minutes to stretch a stiff back.

"He came out of the van and just leaned into me. I think he knew."

That is from a foster carer in Surrey, the morning of an arrival in March.

On the way home

If you are reading this while you wait, your dog is on a road right now. Quietly. With us.
